Family Day in Canada
My new favourite holiday in Canada is Family Day. It is observed in the Canadian provinces of Alberta, Ontario and Saskatchewan on the third Monday of February. This holiday celebrates the importance of families and family life to people and their communities.
These days everyone is connected to ipods, blackberries, ipads, etc. The connection to the family unit seems to have slipped away and that is evident in society at large. At younger and younger ages, children are ending up with early onset type 2 diabetes, battling obesity, etc. There seems to be too much time spent in front of computers and tv and not enough time enjoying the great outdoors. It is time to back to our parents and grandparents time. Celebrate your family by getting outside and being active.
